Seeing the old year out
Old Year's Night, 31 December, is how Guyanese call New Year's Eve. Many attend watch-night services at church, while others celebrate at home or at parties. At midnight, fireworks light up the sky to welcome the new year.
It is not a public holiday, but many businesses close early.
